The Health Assistants will be responsible for HIV testing and counselling services.  
 
Key focus areas include:
  • Conduct pre-and post- test counselling in line with the relevant HTS standard procedures and guidelines.
  • Perform Rapid Testing and other Rapid Diagnostics Tests (conforming with training content and methodology).
  • Maintain the required confidentiality of clients' test results, relating to health/medical status as well as personal details.
  • Make appropriate referrals within the health system and community.
  • Make appointments for follow-up counselling and support.
  • Maintain the required quality in counselling and testing records.
  • Provide Index Partner Testing, including ongoing supportive counselling to clients and sexual partners on Index Cases.
  • Subscribe and participate in the HIV Rapid Testing external quality assurance.
  • Submit copies of Rapid Testing Quality Assurance documents as requests.
  • Conduct adherence counselling for ARV Treatment.
  • Conduct TB Screening for HTS Clients.
  • Conduct nutritional assessments.
  • Conduct alcohol testing (Brief Motivational Intervention) as appropriate.
  • Provide infant feeding counselling and support to mothers and families.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Opportunity | Duty Requirement(s)

Minimum requirements:
  • Grade 10 or equivalent Certificate (NQFL2)
  • Grade 12 or Tertiary Education is an added advantage
  • Rapid Testing Certificate
  • Computer literacy with sound knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • HIV Testing and counselling training and experience is an added advantage.
  • Excellent writing skills and fluent in English coupled with conversancy in at least one local language.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Clear articulation skills.
  • Customer/client service etiquette.
