Workshop Assistant Job Vacancy in Windhoek 

Gen Mechanical Services CC, a mechanical services company based in Windhoek, Khomas, Namibia, is currently inviting suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Workshop Assistant.

This opportunity is ideal for a motivated, hands-on individual who can work independently, support mechanics effectively, and contribute to the smooth operation of a busy mechanical workshop.


Job Overview

The Workshop Assistant will play a key support role within the workshop and on customer sites. The successful candidate will assist mechanics with mechanical tasks, maintain workshop organization, manage parts and tools, and ensure safety and operational procedures are followed at all times.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist mechanics with mechanical work both in the workshop and at customer premises

  • Support installation, removal, servicing, and overhauling of pumps, gearboxes, engines, and other mechanical equipment

  • Maintain accurate workshop and storeroom records, including receiving and issuing parts according to company procedures

  • Conduct regular stock checks and ensure spare parts are correctly allocated to job cards

  • Handle deliveries and collections, ensuring all required documentation is completed

  • Operate mobile elevated work platforms, including forklifts, where required

  • Keep company vehicles clean, roadworthy, and ready for use

  • Assist with fault detection, diagnostics, dismantling, and inspection of mechanical components

  • Clean, fetch, maintain, and organize tools, equipment, and work areas

  • Perform general housekeeping duties to maintain a safe and organized workshop and yard

  • Follow all safety rules, standard operating procedures, and correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE)


Minimum Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience working with earthmoving machinery

  • Good technical knowledge of diesel engines and mechanical systems

  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and diagrams

  • Fluency in English (spoken and written)

  • Valid Code B driver’s licence

  • Medically fit and able to work at heights, in confined spaces, and handle heavy loads


Additional Information

  • The role may require overtime work

  • Willingness to travel outside Windhoek when necessary is essential
